Dark amber in colour, Oban Little Bay has a rich and vibrant malty nose with dried apple, dried plums, caramel, honey, allspice, and oak. There’s a solid balance between the rich and spicy characteristics. The entry is very flavorful and expressive, matching the nose quite well with toasted malt, green apple, dried apricot, salt, chocolate, and orange peel. In the midpalate, the real impact of the small cask finish is quite apparent as the spice elements noticeably increase with clove and oak without abandoning the sweet dried fruit underneath. After the peak of the midpalate, Oban Little Bay backs off quite a bit for a lightly acidic and slightly spicy finish. It’s a fairly light and slightly dry finish that ends fairly clean.

An easy-drinking Talisker, taking the distillery's classically rugged character and softening it out while maintaining the smoky and sweet notes the distillery is known for. More approachable, but still definitely Talisker. Rich notes of stewed apple and pear with some treacle toffee and a hint of marzipan. There’s some subdued smoke puffing away in the background along with cured meat and a touch of liquorice. Much more approachable than the 10yo.
Skye, 45%
Released in early 2013, Talisker Storm has all the warm, smoky, peppery characteristics we all love in the standard Talisker 10yo - but they've been turned up a notch, with more smoke, more spices, and a bigger-than-ever flavour explosion. Rich and unexpectedly honeyed initially. Then some pleasing singed oaky notes and bandage aromas. Now bonfire smoke comes through. There even seems to be some milk chocolate and appley fruit lurking in the rear. Everything in place; all very promising.
